When asked why I choose to work a MLM business alongside my accountancy career, my answer is simple.

  1. I meet, and get the chance to help, a variety of people from all walks of life
  2. I love the products and enjoy learning about health and nutrition
  3. It is quite different from traditional business (but utilises similar skills) creating a sense of balance
  4. The team environment is great, we are all running our own business but share ideas, documents and personal triumphs
  5. By helping others to create a lifestyle of their choosing, I am developing a lifestyle of my choosing.

RELEVANT READING: The Secrets to Success by Patric Chan, explains that success doesn’t have to be complicated.

Since October is Cancer Awareness month, I thought it appropriate to write a post about keeping yourself healthy enough to reduce the risk, in this case of breast cancer.

Obviously, your susceptibility to the disease has several influences such as age, genetics, menstrual pattern (particularly your age when you have you first cycle and when the symptoms of menopause begin to take affect) but there are some factors that you can control, and as you might expect, my advice is EVERYTHING IN MODERATION, after all, you’ve got to have a life, right?

Alcohol Consumption

Consider limiting your alcohol intake to two beverages per week and always avoid binge drinking.

Ensure your diet includes foods such as onions, garlic and dark green vegetables to keep your liver clean and healthy.

Hormonal Balance

When oestrogen  becomes more dominant than progesterone , you are more likely to develop symptoms such as PMS, heavier periods, longer periods, cysts and fibroids, and painful breasts.

Limit your contact with hormones such as the birth control pill or hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and avoid environmental oestrogen-like chemicals such as parabens.  To discuss a natural alternative to HRT, call me for a chat.

Body Mass Index

Fat tissue has the ability to turn testosterone into oestrogen.

Exercising regularly and eating a healthy, balanced diet full of vegetables, fruits and lean meats can help you reduce your risk.  If vegetables ‘are not your thing’ then consider supplementing your diet with a high quality product such as ‘Fields of Greens’.

The American Institute for Cancer Research/World Cancer Research Fund reported that “38% of cases of breast cancer in the United States could be prevented through diet, activity, and healthy weight.”

If you need to ‘kick start’ a healthier lifestyle, why not consider a 9 day detox and weight loss programme?

Vitamin D

Research has shown a direct correlation between low vitamin D and breast cancer risk. Your GP should be able to test you and advise, however if you think you may be deficient consume more fatty fish, eggs and meat.

Vitamin D  has many significant roles within the body and together with calcium, it helps protect adults from osteoporosis.

Raising Funds for Cancer Research

On the evening of Friday 8th October 2010, I am hosting a special pink themed, Pampered Chef event in my home.  All hostess rewards and proceeds of a raffle will be donated to the amazing Cancer Research UK  charity.

We will be using pink products to cook pink food and there will be lots of fun and games.  If you would like an invitation to attend or can’t attend but would like to support the event, please email me ASAP.  Thank you.

Examine Yourself

It is widely recognised that all though breast cancer is one of the most common form of cancer, it is one the easiest to recover from provided it is detected early.  Please make a habit of examining your own breasts.  If you’ve not done it before, here is a video on how to proceed.

Take care.

I started using A-Beta-CarE from Forever Living Products to help my poor skin condition.  Since then I have discovered that it has so many benefits including helping me to manage the symptoms of PCOS.  It is a perfect supplement to drinking Aloe.

//gallery.foreverliving.com/gallery/FLP/image/products/054_large_ver2.jpgKey Benefits

  • Helps with skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis and acne
  • Can reduce menopausal hot flushes
  • Powerful antioxidant
  • Promotes healthy skin, hair, eyes and heart
  • Can help manage the symptoms of Crohns, Lupus, ME, MS and gout
  • Contains selenium which has been medically linked to promoting men’s health/fertility

Beta Carotene

Vitamin A is a powerful nutrient for skin and eyesight, however in large doses it can be toxic.  A-Beta-CarE delivers vitamin A in the form of Beta Carotene which the small intestine can convert in to Vitamin A as it is needed, taking away the possibility of overdose.

Beta Carotene is a highly effective antioxidant, which helps fight free-radical damage and therefore improves general skin health and combatting skin aging.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an essential nutrient for good skin health.  It is also known to encourage effective regulation of body temperature and is therefore useful to menopausal women.

It has many other benefits such as acting as an anti-clotting agent for the blood and assisting sufferers of osteo-arthritis.

Selenium

Selenium is a trace mineral found in brazil nuts amongst other things.  It too is a powerful antioxidant and therefore a promoter of great skin and hair.  It has also been linked to fighting ovarian cancer.

Research has shown that selenium is important in maintaining men’s health.  In particular a deficiency has been linked to prostate cancer and low sperm counts.

And…

wait for it girls, there’s more good news!  A-Beta-CarE can help to combat cellulite 🙂

Go on, admit it, when you’ve bumped in to a Utility Warehouse distributor or an Aloe Vera fanatic at a networking meeting you have turned your nose up.  You considered your business more complex, more entrepreneurial, more successful – a proper business; after all these people have been dissolutioned by nothing more than a new variety of pyramid scheme, right?

Missing a trick?

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) or Network Marketing is a huge industry that is here to stay.  Company’s embrace the extremely effective and efficient way MLM gets products or services to the end user.  This creates higher margins that these ‘simple’ structures carefully distribute to everyone involved.

MLM businesses can be run on your own, or with your partner, full time, part time or in the ‘nooks and crannies’ of life.  It can provide you with an escape from your day to day life, a chance to meet lots of new friends and access to a huge amount of business training, but most of all MLM can provide you with an opportunity to take control.

My observations

  1. MLM participants are highly motivated, sociable and generally happy, contented people.
  2. Although you are running your own business on your own terms (subject to some guidelines set out by the MLM organisation you have chosen) you are never on your own.  The amount of support, training, friendship, storytelling and sharing of techniques is amazing.
  3. People who have not succeeded in MLM have not had the vision (dream, goals etc) to motivate themselves to plan and then put consistent effort in to generating opportunities.  Consistent could mean as little as 10 minutes a day – a ‘phone call, a blog post, a coffee with a potential team member.  How much time you devote is a personal decision, but consistency is key to momentum.  The other problem is unrealistic ideas about how quickly MLM can change lives, as with many things in life, MLM is a marathon not a sprint.
  4. Some serious amounts of money are being generated by people that are accessible to everyone.  MLM is not a corporate environment with a ‘fat cat’ board, the high earners in this industry understand that sharing experiences, coaching and encouraging participants helps everyone to achieve more.  The basic principles of leverage and synergy.

Embracing MLM

Next time you meet a MLM participant, remember that they have drive, passion, self-discipline and the spirit to take their destiny in to their own hands.  They are highly motivated team players who bend over backwards to help others and spend countless hours honing their skills.  Isn’t that person someone you would like to get to know?  Or perhaps someone you would like to work with?

30 sachets per box (88.7ml)  Price: £87.41 | code: 306

Aloe Deep Moisturizing Cream

The amazing, top quality Sonya Skincare range has been extended.

The Deep Moisturizing Cream quenches your skin’s thirst for moisture. As well as Aloe (of course) it contains pine bark extract with OPCs (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins) containing some of the strongest antioxidant properties in nature. This combats free radicals to help preserve and strengthen the skin’s collagen, the most abundant protein in the body.  Scientists believe reducing the impact of free radicals to be one of the best ways to counteract the signs of ageing.

The aloe helps carry these key ingredients deep in to the layers of the skin, helping to restore and preserve your skin’s youthful appearance rather than paying to ‘plump up’ the dead cells sitting on the outer layer of epidermis. Scientists believe reducing the impact of free radicals to be one of the best ways to counteract the signs of ageing.

Go on, pamper yourself!

Microbes are micro-organisms that live in our bodies and play a role in our general health and well-being.

While some microbes are detrimental, the majority are beneficial.  These ‘good bacteria’ are called ‘probiotic’ meaning ‘for life’ in Greek.

Our bodies are full of micro-organisms — in and on the skin, in the gut, and in other orifices. Friendly bacteria are vital to proper development of the immune system, to protection against micro-organisms that could cause disease, and to the digestion and absorption of food and nutrients. Each person’s mix of bacteria varies. Interactions between a person and the micro-organisms in his body, and among the micro-organisms themselves, can be crucial to the person’s health and well-being – a very difficult and delicate balancing act.

Unfriendly micro-organisms such as disease-causing bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and parasites can also upset the balance. Researchers are exploring whether probiotics could halt these unfriendly agents in the first place and/or suppress their growth and activity in conditions like:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s diesase
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Ulcers and some types of chronic stomach inflammation
  • Vaginal infections
  • Infectious diarrhoea
  • Tooth decay
  • Stomach and respiratory infections
  • Skin infections

One months supply £23.49

Designed to promote a healthy digestive system, Forever Active Probiotic is a small, easy to swallow beadlet that helps redress imbalances created by our food and lifestyle choices.  It works primarily in the colon where it assists with the process of food digestion, helping to release nutrients for absorption and contributes positively to normal human growth and development by encouraging and maintaining a balanced healthy system.

As probiotics themselves are quite fragile, Forever Active Probiotic uses an exclusive patented encapsulation technology that protects the probiotics then releases a unique combination of six beneficial strains of microbes once the beadlet has reached its optimum destination – the large intestine.

Teamed with Aloe Vera Gel drink, which cleans the gut and aids absorption amoungst other benefits, probiotics can be most efficient.

Nutritionist Dorne Parker says “Probiotics can also help with fatigue, sleep problems, skin conditions, joints and muscles, allergies and general immune dysfunction”

Dr Peter Atherton, a GP and aloe research expert says “Probiotics are considered to be both safe and effective for preventing and treating antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and infectious diarrhoea.  They probably work by direct competition between pathogenic bacteria in the gut and immune modulation”

In summary,

  • Probiotics promote a healthy digestive system
  • Probiotics enhance nutrient absorption and immune function
  • Forever Active Probiotic is a high quality, easy to use probiotic that doesn’t need to be refrigerated and contains six beneficial strains of microbes.

Why is it that some people are successful and some are not? Why is it that are some people paid millions a year while some are on minimum wage?

If you’re struggling to get by and you hear of someone making a HUGE amount of money it may seem unjust and unfair. But, as Jim Rohn would say, it’s all about the value you bring to the marketplace.

So it would seem that the other person is more valuable to the marketplace than you are.

The good thing is you can increase your value, and hence increase your income, and you can start today. However, Jim explains better than I do.

With thanks to my twitterbuddy,  Mark Hibbitts

j0232957In the cleaning industry Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) is a common component of floor cleaners, engine degreasers, carwash soaps, etc. because it is corrosive and is efficient at cleaning greasy surfaces.   This inexpensive detergent ingredient is commonly used in cosmetic cleansers, hair shampoos, toothpaste, shaving foams, shower gels, bubble baths etc because it is great at creating a dense lather.

As we grow up it is instilled in us through a desire for cleanliness and clever marketing that lots of lather is the sign of a good hygiene product, however this is a long way from the reality.  You can cleanse without lather and natural products are capable of producing some lather with out SLS, so are you happy to let your family use these mainstream products?

What if you knew that SLS is used throughout the world for clinical testing as a primary skin irritant?Rat

What if you knew that it was an ingredient of rat poison?

j0354385What if you knew that in the US, toothpaste has a medical warning stating that if your child uses more than a pea sized amount and there is any risk that they have swallowed any of the paste, they should seek medical attention immediately?

A study at the Medical College of Georgia , indicated that SLS penetrated into the eyes as well as brain, heart, liver, lungs, etc., and suggested that it could be a cause of corneal damage and cataracts.

SLS is harmful to skin and hair as it is corrosive and removes lipids causing rashes and dryness and is thought to attack hair follicles. The Journal of the American College of Toxicology notes that this ingredient has a “degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties.”

Although sodium lauryl sulphate has not been found to be carcinogenic, it has been shown that it causes severe epidermal changes in the area it is applied, indicating a need for tumour-enhancing assays.

Whilst most of the research conducted only provides ‘suggestive evidence’ you as a consumer have the right to choose products without harmful substances.  I urge you to look at some of the every day products in your bathroom, you will be surprised at how many mainstream brands are using chemicals to ‘enhance’ their products without providing us with the right education to make an informed decision. In Germany a concerted effort is being made to label products as ‘certified natural’ i.e do not contain SLS or similar chemicals such as ammonium lauryl sulphate and sodium laureth sulphate.

Please think of your health and that of your family next time you purchase a cosmetic or personal care product from a general retailer.  Remember, the higher up the list of ingredients a chemical is, the higher proportion it contains.

With eczema being such a common ailment in today’s society (as many as 1 in 3 children under the age of 5 years old suffers with eczema) I’m often asked which of Forever’s fantastic range of aloe and bee products should be tried, so I list below they key points for quick reference.

Aloe and bee propolis is an amazing combination as aloe is a natural healer and nutrient-rich superfood, helping the skin to recover whilst the propolis cleanses, moisturises and generally alleviates the itchiness.

Aloe Vera Gel Drink (nicknamed the miracle plant or healing plant)Aloe Vera Gel-compressedHI

Aloe Gelly (best for use on ‘wet’ eczema)

  • Excellent environmentally-friendly alternative to irritating washing powders
  • Contains no phosphorus

This is not a comprehensive list of the products that may help, it is intended to give an overview of the key products I would recommend to assist in the relief of eczema.  For example, I suffer with broken skin around my armpits, so the soothing, unperfumed deo-stick is a must and the Aloe First spray is great for cleansing sensitive, scaly skin.

To find out more about the products, visit our online shop or get in touch via email.

Fellow distributor Jane Rubin says

“Just to add my own experience – I have found that the Aloe Vera Gelly is the very best anti-itch formula. What I suggest to eczema sufferers is to use the Gelly at night, then after washing in the morning, apply a thin coat of Gelly followed by the Propolis Creme. The extra moisturising quality of these used together helps with the dryness of the affected areas, and the Propolis is so healing of the worst patches. The Aloe First is also excellent, especially if there is a large area to be covered.”

and Ruth Goodwin says

“My daughter is eight years old, and suffers with eczema. She’s drinks the gel daily and we mix together Aloe Propolis Creme and Aloe First to put on her skin, and find this combination makes the perfect consistency to stop the itching.”
